I turn down an insurance sales job every week. It would be great if there were a base pay, but I'm not working for free.

My dad is an insurance salesman. It's not really work for free, it's a commission thing, and they pay you if the client stays on, so it stacks and grows geometrically.

Basically, it's best to join when not in a financial crisis because you'll start off not making much but in a few years you'll be making wads of cash if you're good.

My mum started working as an insurance agent at this place called Primerica. I don't know if it's a scam, I thought it was at first but she's making money off it so... *shrug* Regardless, she makes just over 6 figures working for the Ontario government so she at least has that to fall back on.

My brother tried to be an insurance salesman for about 6 months. He got a small client base but not enough to, you know, stay alive.

After he left, his supervisor took over all his clients. And all the clients the other ~8 or so salesmen that came and went while my brother worked there. Guess who's making bank.

My cousin just became an Aflak salesperson (not sure if saleswoman is an actual way of saying it so will just go with the ambiguous one) but I haven't heard any updates about how profitable it has been for her yet.

I live in Michigan. People here cannot afford insurance because the job market is crap. My ex-father in law tried the insurance thing, and wound up working 80+ hours a week every week for either nothing or next to nothing.
