I always assumed that if the names of the week had religious significance, then Sunday is of course the start, because you know, god created light on the first day, and thus SUNday is the start.

That makes even less sense. The seventh day was the day of rest, not the first. You don't start your week with sabbath, you end it. Unless your numbering system goes 7 1 2 3 4 5 6 8 [...]. Which would just totally bugger with the mathematics systems involved.

That's why Sabbath is on Saturday. They just moved it to Sunday for convenience purposes, later on, by the Catholic Church. But the "day of rest" - yea, actually supposed to be Saturday. Many still hold it to be Saturday (pretty much everyone thats not Catholic or an offshoot thereof, I think). Saturday is the last day of the week, Sunday the beginning.

They are weekends, yes, in the same way we have bookends. They are the days that go on either side.

Another thing to remember is that most of the weekdays are named after Norse gods. Wednesday is apparently Odin's Day, Thursday is Thor's Day, Friday is Freyja's day. I think Tuesday is Tihr's day.  Not quite sure where Monday comes from.

In Spanish speaking countries, Sunday is the last day of the week.

I have seen this video. You should go find them and see if this is just a joke. I suspect it is. If not, do they mourn all of the plants they eat?
