Just forced myself to watch an episode of this 'My Little Ponies' thing that everyone has been obsessing over for the past half a year to see if there was any merit to it being everywhere. I mean, I try to keep an open mind...

Seemed like any other kiddie cartoon to me. Maybe slightly better script. I had to stop watching after half an episode. Still completely puzzled by the fascination with this cartoon.

People obsess over weird things. Like hockey or football. Or sports in general.

Just another warning, but a user named 'bawns' is posting more shock images.

Yeah, but it all dies down after about 5 minutes. That's not a particularly useful tactic, and being as that we're on the internet, it's pretty old.

Yeah, I could never quite understand those, either.

Because its Homestuck. Everything about that is catchy.

I love football, and I can talk at length about differences in a 4-3, 4-4, 46, and 3-4 defense and their implications, but I wouldn't call myself obsessed.

Never had any issues with Homestuck music getting stuck inside my head.
Usually I have problems with really weird stuff getting stuck inside my head, like random 1980s new-wave seen on VH1 Classic, or the anthem of German Democratic Republic (which is very strange, there's nothing in there to make it catchy). The randomness of songs which my mind remembers often makes me feel like "WTF?"

Profile => Buddies/Ignore List => Edit Ignore List
That'll do until Toady One arrives.

EDIT:
Why do people do that, anyway? Is it for attention? Because having a little intelligent discourse is a much better way to get attention here.
The poor guy is starving without lulz, probably.

Oh, I ignored him the moment I saw one of his posts. Was letting people know so that if anyone is actually bothered by that sort of tame crap, they can preemptively ignore him. And yeah, it really doesn't make sense to troll Bay12 of all places with gore images. Especially the upper boards.

Bay 12 is a relatively secluded community. Our green-skinned friends love striking at such places, believing that they will get some lulz from unsuspecting members RAEGing at them.

Which episode did you try? Because episodes 1 and 2 aren't really a great representation of the show itself.

I've seen a few episodes myself, and I still don't get the appeal. I've said it before, but yeah it's well written (for a little girls' cartoon,) the animation is slick and well done (for a little girls' cartoon,) the voice acting is good (for a little girls' cartoon,) has good character development (for a little girls' cartoon,) and it's pretty funny (for a little girls' cartoon.) Because I'm not in the target demographic, and never have been, it just doesn't appeal to me. It's fine (for a little girls' cartoon,) but it's just not for me.

A story's a story and can be judged by the same metric regardless of who it's intended for. "Little girl's show" is a 100% neutral descriptor, so it's less than a flimsy justification.

Not that you need a justification, because as you said, not everything appeals to everyone. That's good enough.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I don't think that that's entirely true. "I, Robot" (the Asimov version) would lose some of its appeal through the eyes of my three year old. I happen to love the story, but it's told in such a different manner that it's a completely different beast from a tv show, a video game, or many other storytelling mediums. Can you really judge a magazine article through the same lens with which you view a D&D campaign? They're both stories, but different expectations are placed on both.
