I wtf'd when I learned that the Germans have an idiom "Bömisches Dorf" (a Bohemian village) which means an unkown location. Quite similiar to "This is Hebrew to me" and what not.
For some reason I find this absolutely adorable.

Actually, I knew why it was happening, I just forgot until I saw it was fireworks.  There's a big bridge being "opened" across town, so they're inaugurating it on... Whatever this holiday is called.  The bridge doesn't actually go anywhere yet, because the two roads it's supposed to connect haven't been built, but the bridge is done.

It also looks like a giant hoolahoop covered in silly-string.

The UK has a population of 62 million. The US has a little over 5 times that amount. That's a lot of people to employ.

That doesn't account for all of it, of course, but it can't possibly help.
