Just checked the source on the page, there is nothing there besides the date for that box.

Honestly, I don't see what it could be other then a mini-SOPA protest and being in solidarity with all the websites that went down (even if he didn't really say anything against SOPA or shut down bay 12 for the day).

Unless you honestly believe that he randomly posted this on the same day as the SOPA blackout without knowing that it was SOPA blackout day, which seems a bit ridiculous to believe, although I don't have any hard evidence to prove that he did it intentionally.

I may be slightly paraphrasing, but I believe the quote "Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity" applies here. It is far more likely that Toady failed a posting check which happened to fall on the same day as a blackout (which was observed by maybe 10% of websites, total), than the scenario that Toady did protest, but did it in the most ineffectual way possible.

I see nothing more than people seeking to justify their own paranoia by seeing "signs".

My theory is that they tend to get intimidated by all the guys. I know I'd feel awkward entering a field dominated by women. I'd still get over it though, because honestly, fuck peer pressure...

There's still a few in our class, although our local uni has a Female engineering group, which I guess must work well as a support group.

I know, right? I have two programming classes, with maybe 3 ladies between them. Coincidentally, they're also both taught by teachers with fairly poor spoken English skills. Makes it a bit tricky to understand all those concepts.

Seems to be pretty typical here too.  I think I've seen like 5 females in the CS classes here during my undergraduate career.  Graduate school is a bit different and they're a bit more common, but not a lot.  Still maybe 20% of the student body at best.

Mechanical and even electrical engineering seem to have a lot more for some reason.
