Yesterday my friend asked if I wanted to make a mayonase sandwich...

slap a banana and some peanut butter on it, then skillet fry it. and you have the most disgusting delicious thing you ever didn't want to eat, but didn't regret doing so afterwards.

I honestly didn't think about it even when you bolded them. If we set our minds to Freud everyday, (well, consciously), pretty much everything would be considerably more annoying :P

Go to a housecall to fix somebody's printer, when I get there it's working perfectly fine.  Now don't get me wrong, I believe them, that kind of thing happens.

But I spend 20 minutes digging through the printer properties to try to figure out why it didn't print when they wanted it to.  I even waited til the thing went into standby to see if it printed then.  Everything worked as it was supposed to.  I have no idea what caused their described problem.  Power settings were good, wireless settings were all golden, the computer is even capable of turning the printer on when the thing is off, and even opens the paper out door if it's closed.   I see absolutely nothing wrong with the printer.  In fact I would say the thing is idiot proof.

The person who called it in is not an idiot, and a long time customer.  He's perfectly fine that I couldn't find anything wrong with it, and even apologised and insisted on giving me a tip when I told him it was no charge.  Still it really bugs me that I could not fix the dude's problem.  I'm sure it's going to haunt me all night as I think up other things I could have tried.   Curse this conscience!

Did you try power cycling said printer? Some printers act weird if things are already queued for them when they turn on.

I did turn it off and on.  I even checked the power plug, though I didn't disconnect those, I just jiggled them a bit to make sure they were in tight.   I hadn't tried unplugging it and sending it a print, though I did try turning it off to see how it would behave to have the computer have something already waiting for it during the printer's startup, but that's when I discovered the computer could turn the printer on remotely(which is an awesome feature, if I remembered the model I would get one) and it worked fine during that.

I also didn't try the scan or copy, but they specifically said it wasn't printing and that user knows the difference, so that didn't seem relevant.

Did you check his print queue on the pc or the printhistory if the printer has one? I've had stuff like people pressing "cancel" by accident (thinking they pressed "print"), or the print fell out of the printer and under the table or something.

WTF'ish... I just got my first friend with a PhD. In Neurosomethingsomething. Something about theoretical neuronmodels and bursts vs spikes in pyramidal neurons from the thalamus. When she explained it I thought I understood but now I can't reproduce it :) Anyway, good reason for a party, but I feel quite... undereducated.

More of an Agggggggggh than a WTF, but we got a big powerful looking router donated to our class since the comapany was upgrading in november, or close to that. We actually boot it up today, and you know what we find?

A router thats 5 versions of cisco iOS out of date, twice as big as any other networking equipment in the room, and doesn't even have enough memory to hold a config from one of our much less awesome looking normal routers.

My WTF for today: Driving home, I saw a sign on the freeway with a picture of a sheep and the text "Not even I believe the official story of 9/11".

I thought my town didn't have any nutjobs. D:

Technically they're right, though. You don't see many sheep that believe in it.
Or anything other than grass, really.
