I imagine a dwarves beard is like their entire dignity. If a dwarf gets terminally ill, hell tell the others to pull the plug when his beard starts falling out. Anything else he can deal with

i actually meant literally in the literal sense, but was not expressing a legitimately held belief

the mental image was to be of putnam erupting in a blast of fire and force, destroying local property for miles around, but with an understanding that it was a humorous scenario not expected in earnest

so it was "literally" as sarcasm, rather than as an intensifier

edit: or did you mean my assessment of the universal applicability of implications, in which case i stand by that as being literally literally true
