Ok this is a weird thing i discovered in Xcom (not the newest one mind you. The 2012 one).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vIp8-HRu5A

Apparently shots triggered by panic (as in when a soldier panics) are counted as regular shots and can crit... and likely have full accuracy as well.
Meanwhile i always thought those shots were counted as "overwatch" and get accuracy penalties and 0 chance to crit... but guess i was wrong.

Prefer my parent's version better.
Agreed. It is more sad and haunting.

Dat shit be quotable, yo.

Edit: Why did I type that? What went wrong with my brain?
If that wasn't WTF enough, my computer seems to be doing that thing where it won't load any webpages except for Bay12. Lucky I had one of my favourite songs pre-buffered or, knowing me, I probably would have broken something by now. And there are two bowls, a glass and a cup of hot coffee on my rickety desk, so there probably would have been a lot of mess resulting from an outburst.

You should get someone to embroider it into on of kitschy little wall-hanging things.
That would be a cool, rather personal piece of decor. :)

One of my parents (I can't remember which) once said 'Violence is the last bastion of a man under siege'

Decided to look up who said the quote and... nobody apparently. There's similar ones (violence is the last refuge of an incompetent man) but not that.
Prefer my parent's version better.
I like the original, and its implications.  Associating violence with uncreativity.
Your parent's version is good too, but more tragic and perhaps realistic.  After all, someone under siege often isn't *wrong*.  Yet still left with few options.

There are plenty of competent people who do violence, and not necessarily as a last resort! Also they may be competent at violence, which confuses things somewhat.
Just the same as there are no doubt lots of incompetent folks who would use violence as their first option, not a last refuge.

Mainly I just take objection to the fact that the other one implies violence equals incompetence. :-\
Anyway, I appear to be rambling. Not surprising giving that my internet is playing up.

You're right, of course.
Like many, I would *prefer* to associate violence with incompetence.  To believe that no one is actually driven to it as a last resort.

Then get it done in Latin to make it seem even MORE profound!
I dunno... wouldn't that just make it seem more pretentious? ???
Then again, I've never studied latin, so perhaps I'm missing something.

The quote in English is quite poetic as-is, if you ask me.

That's a good saying, though looking into it, isn't a man under siege already in a violent situation?

Randomly tripped over this article.

http://ajw.asahi.com/article/0311disaster/life_and_death/AJ201601210001

> A Tohoku Gakuin University senior majoring in sociology included the encounter in her graduation thesis, in which seven taxi drivers reported carrying "ghost passengers" following the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami.
> Yuka Kudo, 22, went to Ishinomaki every week in her junior year to interview taxi drivers waiting for fares. She asked them, “Did you have any unusual experiences after the disaster?”
> She asked the question to more than 100 drivers, and many ignored her. Some became angry. However, seven drivers recounted their mysterious experiences to her.

In the two the article described, supposedly, the "ghost passengers" got in, spoke a bit, and at some point disappeared.

> The seven drivers' accounts cannot be easily dismissed as simple illusions. That is because if a passenger climbed in their taxi, the driver started the meter, which is recorded.
> If the passengers were indeed "ghosts," they were still counted as riders. As a result, the drivers were forced to pay their fares.

Do news-writers get some kind of special training for illogical thinking? A running meter without payment (or with the driver paying) doesn't prove that ghosts exist... (It also doesn't sound like the article's writer actually bothered to talk to anyone besides Yuka Kudo?)

I think "under siege" was meant metaphorically, whilst the violence part was literal.

I just realized how completely insane it is that the song I'm listening to sounds significantly faster to my ear even though I made it two percent faster, from tempo 100 to 102.

Though IIRC about a few months ago I had an issue with a song because it was way too fast at tempo 120 but too slow at tempo 119, so apparently my hearing precision is way higher than that.
