You mean their sex.

I mean, you're just going along with him when he says they mean the same thing, even though they don't.

It's not forcibly introduced, third person singular they is becoming a thing anyway.

Derivatives. My brain is gone. Math has pulled the wool over my eyes again, I once again know nothing about anything.

I thought reading that thread might be a good way to improve my terrible math skills, but I was completely lost by page 2.  :(

Yeah, they're usually talking about high level stuff in there. It makes me feel a tad awkward when I occasionally come around with comparatively simple questions about physics or some such, but they've never steered me wrong either.

I can also try to explain derivatives in here, but it's probably best over there instead.

As previously noted, third-person singular is old old old. "He" as the default third-person singular for a person is much more recent and was basically forced through as part of a possible-sexist agenda to shape the nature of the language.

104% turnover per year?!?!   :o Dear god.

Just from last year. If that was consistent, then our stores would eventually run out of employees. We've had to have had a 99% turnover rate at some point.

Not if your replacement rate is high enough, actually. They just need to sucker in as many people as they lose - that's how a 104% turnover rate is even possible, since they lost more people than they actually had. That 4%, at least, had to be new hires, and more likely the bulk of the turnover is such people instead of folks who've gotten invested in it somehow or can't find better work.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Is there a term for someone who is Simple as in "Is happy with the small things"

Versus someone who is simple as in "Mentally handicapped"?

I like to call people simple sometimes but it is the wrong word to use...

So, in wtf...  I have a cold so it's hard to understand me, and I'm not thinking great, so when I went to Bojangles I accidentally got 6 blueberry biscuits instead of pieces of chicken
This sounds like the sort of thing I would do, right down to not complaining and just taking what I got. :P

Um... maybe you could say they're a person of "simple tastes" or something?
That still sounds weird to me, but I'm pretty sure I've heard it said.

Honestly, why not redefine gender to mean personal identity? Like, we had two words for the same thing (because people thought outward appearance, genitals, and internal identity were all synonymous) and then, when that was shown to be incorrect, we kept one of those words to keep meaning biological (as in, chromosomal) matters, and the other to mean the personal identity and outward appearance.

Because it already means something else. Why not get a new word?

That's like saying that since "crimson" and "scarlet" both mean "red" we should change one of them to mean whatever the progressive topic of the week is.
No, it's more like if crimson and scarlet both meant the exact same shade of red, and there was another shade of red that didn't have a name yet, so crimson was attached to that shade instead of the scarlet shade.

As for why not use a new word: Why make up a new word when there's a perfectly serviceable word right there?

People mock "SJWs" for using pronouns like Xe or Hir instead of They, then when they DO use They, they get mocked because "They isn't singular!"

Don't look ay me. I'm also against grammar nazis. It's only lexicography that interests me.

Down-to-earth, perhaps?
Contented is decent.
Just "appreciates the little things" works, to be honest. I'm not sure there is a precise word for it.
