The actual article had a link to an article about "iPhone dad" where she wrote iPhone dad - it's a guy who took away his daughter's iPhone after she sent a message to a friend saying she didn't like his new gf or worse or whatever. The phone had been bought for her by her actual mom, who asked her dad to return it. He refused, so they ask ended up in court, but for some reason the judge found in his favor on the phone thing (the article didn't really say why iirc).

I remember my mom being a hoverparent when I used to use the computer. Claimed she could see everything I did on my computer through hers. I just used to use it to play Runescape.

It was probably a bluff anyway.

In any case, the workaround to that would be to have a friend load the images onto a usb flash drive for you and view them with all internet, bluetooth, and other wireless connections deactivated. Possibly also cover the computer in tinfoil as a makeshift faraday cage.

That's just for real-time remote snooping of the type she described though. Other countermeasures are needed for other types of snooping. Like clearing your browser history and also opening up a bunch of innocuous documents to push everything out of Recent Documents. Also, Spybot Search and Destroy might have been useful for disabling any malware your parents may have installed. It might not come up in the regular scans, but you would definitely have been able to see it on the list of programs that are run on system startup and from there deactivate it.

There's also some free task manager software on the internet that will show each and every task your pc is running, so with careful observation, you can deactivate (or at least find) whatever software your parents are using to monitor you. Pretty much no parent uses stuff like that, though. The most they'll prob do is some third party software that creates a copy of your browser story and keyloggers.

Plus, its not like it takes much effort to find pornographic stuff on normal websites. The reason tumblr is often blocked in schools/libraries is because of the tons of porn blogs that are hosted on it. Parents would prob just look at it and go ~huh, tumblr, maybe my kid has a blog, ok~.
