Reality, I'd say. I've yet to see a single male that bedazzles their shit, and I've only seen men wear glitter in drag and theater.

Twilight isn't precisely designed for the majority male demographic.

Okay, fine, change "theater" to "while acting".  ::)

Plenty of men like and wear (sometimes excessive amounts of) shiny shit, it just tends not to be via glitter and whatnot,* even if Elvis sequined his ass up. Plenty of jewelery, there's subsets that chrome goddamn everything, so on and so forth. Different shinies, but still shinies. Also proxy shinies via genitalia replacements vehicles and guns and crap, which is a behavior that's somewhat less culturally indoctrinated in most places as acceptable for the ladies.

* Not that there's anything wrong with glitter, mind, besides how much of a goddamn nightmare it is to get it out of things.

Oh, yeah, natch. But we're talking about sparkly, not shiny. Gems sparkle, metals shine. The closest you'll get is the effect created when a highly reflective metal is lit solely by candles.

Eehhh... lotta' dudes in this area, anyway, that walk around with some fairly notable gemage, usually in rings. Ones that actually have any money worth note, at least. Do tend to be the darker stones -- rubies et al -- but there's still sparkle that matches or outdoes the ladies, at times. Seems fairly common for masonic type wuzdingers, as an example -- some of the groups like that've got fairly sizable stones as part of their normal wear, and the blighters more or less infest a number of places.

Definitely different framing, though. Seems a lot like better off guys are supposed to wear sparkly shit, but they're supposed to downplay it or somethin', whereas the ladies are completely unsubtly encouraged to bling the buggery out of themselves. Kinda' weird, honestly, paying marginal attention to the phenomena.

I have a class ring...That probably doesn't count though.

It's not as common up here, but it's still something you see younger guys doing. For the most part the people who buy stuff like that put it toward those ridiculously huge "luxury" watches 'round these parts. The only remotely fancy thing I have is a fairly small sterling silver ring, three pieces of wire wrapped tightly around one another. I made it myself out of about $8 worth of scrap 18 gauge wire (my mom makes and sells such things) so it has some sentimental value, but if I tried to sell it I doubt I would even break even.

If I actually had money I'd probably acquire additional shinies, but I simply can't afford to spend on stuff like that.

I find it funny that my Sister criticizes her Boyfriend for wearing his expensive gold watch because it doesn't really co-ordinate with his clothing and essentially becomes garish or gaudy in that circumstance.

So, Jar Jar Bink's voice actor tweeted this in response to the Darth Jar Jar theory thread over on reddit:

Quote
I will say this, it feels really good when the hidden meaning behind the work is seen. No matter how long it takes.  #TPM

https://twitter.com/ahmedbest/status/661221044712148993

I don't even know any more.

He was also amused and pleased that Jar Jar was described as "unintentionally" hated.

Either A++ troll or Lucas really is less of an asshole than we've been led to believe (though still a coward for changing the script because of backlash from fans).

The thing that really convinced me was the balcony ambush scene that's discussed in the thread, where Jar Jar is as stealthy as the two Jedi, "flubs" his jump down and catches the balcony just in time to serve as a distraction, and then the cut to where we see the droid shoot at his initial position hanging from the far-right of the balcony before abruptly whipping around to target the far-left just before Jar Jar drops down.

And then there's that old, infamous Lucas quote in which he says, "Jar Jar's the key to all this, if we get Jar Jar working. [pause] 'Cause he's a funnier character than we've ever had in the movies."

The long troll is real.

Neat thing is it's not exactly impossible Binks is still alive for the new stuff -- he'd be quite old by gungan standards, but even without advanced tech, sith alchemy, or varying lightside techniques for extending lifespan, he could still be kickin'. And that's discounting the good ol' force ghost/possession stuff that resurrected the occasional sith several centuries after they died the first time. And hell, thanks to the existence of palpy's cloning shit laying precedence, even if he did die, there's no guarantee it actually stuck, even without more standard possession shenanigans. Some rock tucked away in the ass end of nowhere could have thousands upon thousands of jar-jar clones in stasis, just waiting for activation.

... also, y'know, I'm not saying anything one way or another, but iirc gungan tech was pretty organic, and there is a major player later in the starwars timeline that has a lot of that going on. Connection?

As much as that theory makes my brain scream, the guy makes a pretty good case. A shame J. J. Abrams is unlikely to include Binks.
