... well, I just stood outside watching a kitten chase its tail for... about fifteen minutes. Straight. It was still going when I got tired of staring and went back inside. It was a very insistent kitten...

A pay gap between all women and all men exists. However, the gap is almost impossible to find when you compare men and women in the same job with equal qualifications and time in position. The society-wide gap has more to do with employment choices (teaching, for example, attracts far more women than men, while construction attracts more men - construction pays much more than teaching), the massive wage disparity between high-level executives and everyone else, and the fact that women are far more likely to take a few years off for child care than men are.

The only portion of that which can be reliably attributed to sexism is the second - CEOs and other high-level executives are much more likely to be men, because hiring practices ten to thirty years ago (which is when the executives of today entered the work force) were heavily biased toward white males.

I get the impression that maternity leave and working less while raising a child is a pretty big one. Paternity leave is pretty rare, isn't generally in the culture, and fathers are expected to keep working and dedicate themselves to their job regardless of how little time they have to spend with their children (particularly in certain sectors of the economy, IIRC legal and financial for instance) - naturally, there's a rebellion against this. For women who have children, in addition to meaning you end up working less hours, it means you may be looked at as being less dedicated to your job if you're so much as considering having kids.

I'm more nervous to talk to somebody online than in meatspace and my best friend is in a worse romantic situation than I am.
When did this happen?

My mom still wants me to join a dating site.

I am not nearly confident enough for this type of thing.

Plus she doesn't know of any dating sites. And wants to help me make my profile.

... your only reasonable recourse is to nope right out the nearest window and run screaming down the street. Don't look back, don't turn around, just keep going until your parent's existence stops being a thing you can notice. Maintain that distance afterwards.

Heck, just joining a dating site seems a bad idea. Joining a dating site because your over-bearing and potentially-crazy mother wants you to seems an even worse idea.

Can't say I'm all that interested in a relationship.

Though my general negativity may cloud my thinking.

And I've said several times I don't really want to join a dating site.

I mean, you could also set it up, then immediately delete it when she's not in the room anymore, but I would never let her set up something you don't want set up in your name.

An article explaining why the gender pay gap exists still decides to blame it on sexism.
It's like the giant sponge of myths, no matter how much it gets cut up it just won't die.

One field where we're explicitly seeing that gender imbalance disappear is in law; it was and to some extent still is heavily dominated by men, but right now the majority of law students are female, so a few decades down the road there are going to be more female judges and attorneys, &c. than male. So to a very minor extent the claim of sexism holds true, but only in the sense that the current situation in some fields is dictated by societal norms from half a century ago, and only if one is the sort of person who thinks that change doesn't exist or matter unless it's literally instantaneous.

Apparently my associate's degree in computer science will require me to complete 3 semesters of calculus and two semesters of engineering physics.

Looks like it's math all the way down. Which actually everything kinda is, if you reason that life is the result of chemistry, and chemistry is basically a form of physics, and when you get down to it physics is just math used to explain how things work.
