Yeah, Chaucer's the most common counterargument in favor of singular-they.

Amusingly enough given your statement, it's the effort to shift usage from "they" to "he" which is about a century old (a bit more, now; it started in the mid-late 1800s).

Even though it's an adjectivization of - aw dangit apparently "adjectivization" isn't a word either.  At least according to Firefox.

But yeah, the only way to tuck this thing at all is to take the hoodie off and put it back on.  Then avoid *nodding*, because that summons TEH HAIR.
