Which often aren't things.  Even on roads.
I mean seriously I never see them around here.  Though here is the US.

And any reasonably realistic racing game will have uses for the brake.

While that is true, near as I've been able to tell over the years the majority of racing games aren't reasonably realistic. Probably for the better, really.

As to the cycle lanes, I see 'em often enough, but I damn sure wouldn't want to use them as a cyclist. There's this thing where, y'know, cars like to use them as car lanes. Not somewhere someone on a bicycle really wants to be. Anywhere near that bloody road is not somewhere someone on a bicycle wants to be

Every once in a long while I'll see one where it's actually off the road, with some kind of physical barrier (or at least the sidewalk or somethin') between it and where they death boxes are. Those are alright. I've seen like two in my lifetime.

Heh. Heheheh. I was in a bike lane when I went by another street. A truck was stopped there. When I rode past him he honked at me and I looked back and he was screaming at me.

If I were to make a racing game, I'd have the left analogue stick control your right foot while the right analogue stick controls your left foot. The d-pad would control the gearshift. You press 'A' or 'B' to toggle your right foot between the brake and accelerator (or the PS controller equivalents), and to start the car moving you have to ease off the right stick while giving slight pressure to the left stick in accelerator mode (as you have to do when normally driving). Steering could be done with the triggers or bumpers. The sticks are inverted to what you'd expect so you can activate both the clutch and the d-pad gearshift at the same time.

The game would have a semi-optional always-online component, where even when playing single player modes and the campaign, other players can invade your world and drive into you. It'd be like racing QWOP Dark Souls.

So there I am, walking to the mandatory orientation meeting they have every year, when the outsole falls off my boot. Just flops right off. Spent the whole thing with it sticking out of my pocket. Got some glue on it now and am waiting for it to set, but man. There could be no better introduction to me.
