Now, I could have refrained from posting this embarrassing rant, but from what I've seen of my friends that's not a road I want to go down either.

Every single post on this forum that isn't by you, I think "damn Cinder, you're such a coward for not posting right this second".  Even on threads you don't post on.

High school doesn't teach as much as it used to, I want it back up to the level it was at.  I tutored calculus in college to freshmen who didn't really grasp algebra.
That sounds like an America problem then, or at least it's not one over here. Then again we don't really split maths up into algebra, geometry, and calculus is school in the same way as you do so it's not easy to easily say though. This is the algebra specification for one exam board at GCSE next year. Calculus is something we don't do until A-levels (age 16-18) though.

I got paralyzed because I was thinking of how to make everything I say sound endearing and make people like me.
It's pointless worrying about it; you're never going to be able to say things perfectly and you do a good enough job of being endearing most of the time anyway.

Well except people who rely on the income to live.

Although at a certain point we're going to have to accept that the machines are taking over.  And once that happens, the only ways to keep down the unemployment rate will be statistical trickery or genocide.

That's exactly what fast food customers want though, based on my experience. They don't want to interact with a human being, they want an all-knowing machine to dispense some cheap slop they can shove in their mouth and maybe not die of food poisoning. They can't even be bothered to take the phone off their ear to check that they aren't rear-ending the next person in the drive through.

I would be glad if a robot took my job; as a matter of fact, I'd be fucking ecstatic. If that happened, then I could get a job cleaning and fixing a cool piece of machinery, rather than dealing with impatient elderly hicks and confused old ladies and idiot stoners and pushy soccer moms with their brats and all the other dregs of society that I deal with as a cashier.

We can already start doing this. Just turn the cash register around and add a vending machine-like bill receptor. The customer rings up their own order, so if they get that part wrong then it's their own bloody fault. That's three to five service employees, no longer necessary. Better for corporations, better for my psychological well-being, better for customers, better for everyone.

I can think of at least one person who is the exception to this norm. Mostly due to her ability to make friends and small talk quickly. The baristas tend to know her on a personal basis, which is always a bit unnerving to me.

That said, I do make attempts at small talk if the line is slow. Like... How's business or like last night slipping that I planned on going on walk after my food. The worker seemed receptive to chatting, at least for a little bit.

That said, if I'm on the move, give me robotic Magee. I don't have time for small talk!!!

I've worked nights a long time, and customers at night are ruder than the ones in the morning. I worked a short morning shift out of the blue one day, and the customers were pleasant enough then. Maybe working nights the past half a year has warped my perspective.

New WTF: Interstellar made me cry like a little baby... twice. I have not cried that hard over a movie since I first saw The Return of the King. If I'm in the right mindset I can cry over just about any film that's trying, but Interstellar tugged exactly the right heartstrings for me. Spoiler'd for those who might still care

EDIT: also people criticizing today's cartoons with "all similar feel" and "low budget low effort"

do they watch today's kids cartoons godDAMN
... people are doing the video game thing for cartoons, too? S'like... I was there for 90s. Remember most of it, to the extent I remember anything. "All similar feel" and "low budget low effort" has described huge amounts of the cartoon industry for at least the last two decades. If anything has substantially changed, it's that pure production values have significantly increased in general, if only by dint of no longer being limited to VHS quality of whathaveyou.

Watching today's kids cartoons nothin', they appear to have not watched yesteryear's either :V

The key to glamorizing the '90s is in being young enough to not remember what things were like in the '90s.

Most of the cartoons I remember either had rather heavy handed safety morals or were cash ins designed to accompany a toy line. "Inspector Gadget", "Street Sharks", "Mighty Ducks", "Mighty Max", "Biker Mice from Mars", "Earthworm Jim", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" etc etc.

Not saying they weren't enjoyable, but something like a "Street Sharks" cartoon only existed to push the toys.

TMNT existed only after the toys got released.

Then there's shows that are both at once, like My Little Pony, which is pushing both toys AND heavy handed morals.

I only ever saw one episode of Earthworm Jim, but it was great, and the vidja games were awesome.
