Now THAT would've made more sense. Earth doesn't have much in the way of natural resources you can't find anywhere else, but it has a nice temperate climate. Any aliens that wanted it would probably want it to set up shop.

Yeah, other planets might have gold, but none of the ones in this system have an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere or potential slaves/food sources. Yes, it's a plot hole, but the same thing exists in pretty much any alien invasion movie.

I watched it because it's a movie about Cowboys fighting Aliens. I went in expecting a stupid plotless movie based around a rediculously funny and awesome premise and that's what it did.

It didn't need a plot, what it needed was Nic Cage and Brian Blessed.
