Yeah, the second amendment says that people should be able to bear arms in order to have a militia, not that every person in the country has to be part of the militia.

Oh, I'm sure when the bombs fall they'll make sure to dig out the liberals afterwards.
I vaguely detect sarcasm but seriously that's one of the most annoying stereotypes I hear about us.
The fact that your country Has that stereotype points to something. Don't like it? Get voting.

It's even more insidious when you realize Japan didn't turn from an agrarian nation to a military / industrial superpower by themselves either.

My Japanese history is sketch, but afaik the Tokugawa Shogunate was going the way of the late Roman Empire when the Boshin War happened.

Considering that during the shogunate it was a completely broken feudal system with the Samurai class being allocated a tariff from the national treasury and bleeding it dry, etc etc- the country was not going a good way. Probably why the Emperor took it back.

But it does sounds like the sort of thing that some hostile power would say in order to try to justify their harsh treatment of American civilians, doesn't it?

Boku no Haram :v

This reminds me that originally, vibrators were created by doctors who were (literally) tired of manually masturbating female clients that were suspected of having "hysteria", which was believed to be caused by not receiving enough sexual pleasure :P

This is actually something of a myth designed to get around advertising restrictions - in that era most things of sexual nature were illegal to advertise to the general populace, but all medical devices were perfectly legal to own (as medicine was quite a bit less formalized, and licensing requirements were rare if not nonexistent), so vibrators were sold for "medical reasons" and advertised "to doctors", which really meant "to everybody but in a legal way". It was the 19th century version of "Professional driver on closed course, do not attempt."

How the hell did DBZ Earth gone from having giant animalmen bandits and "Transformation preschools" being a thing that exist, to Mr. Satan level, in just... 20-30 years?

Eh, Tokugawa era was far from prefect, true. Still you have to admit, it is kinda ironic how, if certain American admiral wouldn't come knocking on the door and by that I mean parking his by-that-time-big-ass ships right in the middle of their port and force Japan to open their borders at a gunpoint, Japan probably wouldn't come bombing Pearl harbour ~80 years later...

And the Japanese.
Awful lot of innocent blood on American hands, though it's similar anywhere.
Ehhhh japan kind of has tons of blood on its hands too, and it was pretty justified for the US to stomp imperial japan to end WW2, altough using ATOMIC BOMBS on two huge civilian sites was a huge dickmove.

They only dropped the second one because the first one wasn't enpugh to make them surrender.

And what would you have had us do instead? Invade? If you want to talk about unethical, a government capriciously gambling away the lives of thousands upon thousands of it's own people to resolve a problem that could have been solved without risking more than a dozen or so of them is unethical.
Soldiers against soldiers, or bombs against civilians?

IIRC the allied intelligence was under the incorrect impression that Hiroshima WAS a military target; that there was a much heavier military presence there than turned out to actually be the case.

Heh, you guys think the big time civilian casualties against Japan came from nukes.  The real atrocities were what we did with "conventional" bombs.

Hiroshima was one of the Japanese Empire's largest supply bases, and a major criteria for selecting it was that it had relatively little historical, cultural, or religious value (as opposed to other potential targets such as Kyoto (a former capital and major religious center).

@EnigmaticHat

The atomic bombs come under greater scrutiny because it was so late in the war and Japan was already dead - they just didn't want to admit it, along with mostly-groundless conspiracy theories that the only reason they were used was to intimidate Stalin.
