This I a good WTF.

I just read this.

... Now I want to write a story about stuff like this.

I think I encountered an article on this issue before.

It's sure got kind 0f a Lovecraftian vibe to it.

I liked the look of the jagged concrete spike thing.
It really wouldn't last sadly, but the idea is so cool.

Well. Here's an album cover art if I've ever seen one.

It works on my computer, though. Huh.

And then they'll loot the vault anyway because these sorts of warnings did not stop the ones who looted the Pharaoh's pyramids.

This is not only useless, but worse than useless - it actually attracts attention and gives people incentivies to open it to gain whatever lies within and to use it like a weapon. Or maybe use it as form of execution.

The most tragic part is, the more and severe-er warnings you place, the more likely that only the most inquisitive minds will investigate.  Talk about about a perverse incentive.

On the plus side though, IIRC, the warnings do try to explain the nature of what's inside using steadily more advanced science.  Stuff like periodic tables midway through.  Which of course is a hell of an incentive to go inside, but at least people can eventually figure out *why* everyone who goes to deeply dies.  Eventually they'll understand what's past the final door without having to physically enter it, and they can be satisfied.

And then there's a plot twist and the vault is full of terabytes of the most disgusting pornography imaginable converted into physical formats -- reams and reams of poorly written smut, glossy posters, continuously looping webms, &c.

Underneath that are the stockpiles of nuclear weapons and pits full of nuclear waste which are inevitably not well-sealed and thus leaking merrily into the water table. Because if there's two things that define humanity, it's sexual perversion and capacity for violence. If there's three, it's reckless irresponsibility. Possibly also music, or as I like to call it, propensity towards violins.

Humans do not work like that, I'm afraid. Unless they can physically see/touch the stuff, they will never believe what was written on a vault. They'll just say that: "stupid religion-like bullshit of the primitive ancient people, who would believe that something invisible can kill? Only a stupid uneducated person!". They did that with the Pharaoh's pyramids, which had the promises of unseen death to everyone who opens it, too.

Well, yeah, and what, exactly, happened to those who entered any pyramids to invalidate that assumption, exactly?

The fact is that it didn't actually stop them from entering these pyramids, and this is why these "big scary words" will not stop the radioactive waste vaults from being opened.

We *knew* what to expect inside pyramids, and since the first person to try entering the pyramids didn't die horribly, the warning was quickly falsified.

Or they could simply describe it as "toxic" instead. It's a little less accurate but everyone's familoar with the idea of poison.

The Campus Quad Crazies are out again, this time as a double feature of straw environmentalists and a single guy with a crude cardboard sign claiming "Israel nuked New York on 9/11" (verbatim).

Tell that to the victims of Tut's curse.
Although in the words of Terry Pratchett "If you hung up a sign saying DO NOT OPEN' on a door someone would go through it just to ask what all the fuss was about.
