Something (either a person or a cat most likely) abandoned a newborn kitten on my boss' back porch at his house.  We were taking care of it today at the shop, nobody here can have a cat at home, and we got a little bottle and some brownish looking stuff that is apparently kitten formula from a pet food donation place in another storefront in the minimall.

They are seeing about finding a home for it but we are taking care of it for now, and it's looking pretty promising for the little guy/girl and we think we have a taker.  It's name for now is 'Thud', because that's the sound he made when he fell out of my boss' fiance's hands and landed in his fortunately well cushioned box.  She is no longer allowed to handle him without 'adult' supervision.

My WTF moment is, why would anyone, person or animal, abandon such a cute and cuddly little thing that hasn't even opened it's eyes?   ...and I suppose the second one is if I'll ever be able to mark a kitten for butchering again.

Mother cats abandon kittens somewhat regularly, seemingly especially when they're very young. I've never bothered to look into the 'why' of it, though. S'just a thing that happens. Hope someone's remembering to tend its digestive, uh... produce. Otherwise things'll get backed up and kitten goes kaput.

Yea, my boss seems to know about that.  He does have cats (he just can't have any more because his landlord has # of animals limits) and since we are a computer shop we did some internet research as well.  I learned quite a bit.  Like how I don't want to be a mom cat for just that reason.
