So I got up at 5am today. Usually I get up at 1pm.
It's now 12pm, and... Jesus. The day is so long, you guys.
Is this why people have jobs and school? Society makes a lot more sense now.

Think of what would happen if people woke up and they were Shoggoth?

They would probably at first refuse to leave the room. Their employer would come to check on them to see why they were late, only to storm away dumbfounded once he caught a glimpse of their hideous form. Later on, they would allow their family to reluctantly care for them and feed them while hiding their presence from the outside world and trying to remember the feelings once harboured for the creature despite the physiological revulsion.
A younger sister, once a pampered doll, would most likely take upon herself to bring the food and clean the room.
All this time, the family would struggle to find get on their feet financially faced with the loss of the sole supporter of the family - now and forever unable to work a job.
In the process they would regain their pride and sense of purpose, become more human and perhaps happier than they were before.
The Shoggoth would just rot in the room, forgotten, maybe swept away to the dustbin, as the story was never really about him anyway.
