What wrong with anime stuff? Geez.

I mainly go down there for FEF at the moment.

Because when people use a medium to describe genre/theme/tone/&c. it tends to be a sign of certain things. Here's an example: HollowQuest is a Quest based in an AU of an anime series. Whatever, that's common enough, it's an easy way to fill in a lot of world-building blanks and provide background cast, mechanics, &c. that the players are already familiar with.

Contrast that with a game in an original setting which is explicitly described as being 'like anime' when inquiring into its tone, themes, narrative style, &c., as that tends to be used as shorthand for a lot of the really annoying tendencies which are for better or worse associated with 'anime'. It's the difference between someone who watches anime and a weeaboo obsessed with their kawaii¹ onii-chan desu~ when translated from individuals into games.²

2. This is opinion and will probably offend someone. Tough. Anime's cool and all, but it's ultimately another way to tell stories, not a ruddy way of life.

In a group chat, a close friend of mine just shouted that he wasn't going to have sex with a black girl (I guess because she's black, who the hell knows). Before we could figure out why, we learned that another one of my friends was in a real bad car wreck this morning. Nah, that's actually pretty relevant. Because the one-semester-of-gratuitous-Japanese crowd that behaves like that sincerely is exactly what we were talking about. 

I mean god damn I've been learning Spanish for a solid eight years of my life plus spotty bits and I wouldn't be entirely comfortable using it interchangeably with the assumption that I'd grasped all of the implications, though that's probably down to my incompetence; that's how I learned how to say "I've got a tapeworm," when I meant to say "I'm lonely."

I've been in this really weird state of "I want to create something, write something possibly, yet I can't find the motivation to begin writing" recently.  It's odd and I'm becoming rather annoyed with myself because of it.  No matter how many awesome ideas I get and how much I want to put them down on paper (or at least a text document), I cannot bring myself to do it.

I need a programmer to check the crash log of my motivation.exe and see if they can't debug it.

You get used to it.

And compartmentalize it, stick it in a little box, shove it into a corner of your psyche so it will stop bothering you, and only pull it out when it can actually do something useful for you. Which is roughly never, if your writing gumption doesn't feel like gumping.

Seems to make for really consistently nice dreams, if nothing else.
