Why do people put autoplay music on tumblr blogs. The website is hard enough to like in the first place and now I've got to work out which of my sixteen tabs is playing Smashmouth.

Use Google Chrome. It shows what tab is playing music up next to the little close icon.

I'll never understand how you guys get so many tabs open at once, let alone why.

Stuff to read later, tvtropes, multiple wikipedia pages on whatever I'm researching, a couple bay12 tabs and a bunch of ss13 wiki tabs.

Firefox/Pale Moon has a setting to open all previously opened tabs instead of open home page, and another one to not load those tabs until you actually click on them.

And if I actually need to hold onto a tab for sure, I can stuff it into Pocket and unmark it once I'm done with it (or if I bookmark it instead)

Yeah. Fairly certain Firefox has this checked by default. I don't remember specifying not to load those tabs until clicked on, but checking the options shows that is indeed set to do that.
