Battle Royale 2 is literally KND if it were live action. I just realized.

Because the only thing I get out of that is KKND, which was a fairly odd RTS from a ways back.

My first thought is the old Cartoon Network show Kids Next Door, except I don't see any real connection to BR II (which, incidentally, was a terrible movie, and hugely disappoing compared to the first Battle Royale film.)





Unless, that is, they're talking about a different pair of Battle Royale movies than I'm thinking of, which is possible.

Because schoolchildren killing each other. Or something. I guess people weren't desensitized to that yet. Incidentally, the movie was surprisingly good, in part because it did try to distance itself from the novel, and did so to a fairly appropriate degree.

Battle Royale was never banned in the US. The test screenings were held at a particularly sensitive time (right after Columbine, which would be like screening a film of Debt of Honor (The Tom Clancy novel where the US government is taken out by a kamikaze airliner) right after 9/11), and the test audience's reaction was so overwhelmingly negative that the copyright holder effectively made it impossible to distribute out of fear of publicity damage. Most copies of the film (before it was released on Netflix and later on DVD) were illegal and were confiscated. Because they were bootlegs that violated copyright law.

I found out that the war between the machines and humans in The Matrix is explained in one of the Animatrix... I'm not sure if they're films or just episodes.

Turns out, humans were arseholes in the Matrix universe. Create AI, they ask for equal rights, denied. A machine learns it's going to be scrapped so it kills its owner. Humans start genociding the machines. Machines form a city and trade with the humans (causing the world economy to crash as they produce a lot of cheap goods) and then ask for representation. UN denies them then nukes them, failing to kill them all off. They decided at that point (after forgiving us for being prejudiced, the genocide AND being denied UN representation) that they'd have to wipe us out. Then 60 years of war and lots of bad stuff going on. We release nanobots into the sky to try and starve them of power, resulting in the 'scorched sky' that caused the global ecosystem to collapse, and eventually, after most of the world is conquered, we THEN decide 'OK, peace, then.', where the leaders sign a peace deal before the robot ambassador starts to gloat at them, delivers an ultimatum of 'surrender your bodies to us or die' then nukes the world leaders.

So yeah. The humans in that are the bad guys, it turns out.

And after all of that they still tried to make the Matrix a utopia for us. And actually agree to peace proper at the end of the third one (if they keep it or not, at least a truce was made). Huh.
