Down here in the Australias and the new Zee-lands, we have a few sciencey type channels on Sky TV.
National Geographic is pretty good as far as I know, but I haven't watched it for ages.
Discovery channel is mostly about engineering type sciences; how cars are made, for example.
BBC Knowledge is apparently not-shit, but the only source I have on this is my dad, who is not known for his high standards. I don't watch it myself, so I can't really say any more.
Animal Planet used to be good, all about animals and stuff. Now it's mostly a circlejerk for PETA zealots.
History Channel here doesn't have a great deal of the "aliens!" bollocks, though it's getting more prevalent. Most of their shows are about political scandals from a century ago and the world wars.

So my friend is trying to install Ubuntu on an older HP Pavillion, but the installer says the hard drive has no partitions so he asks me to sort it out. I run a hard drive diagnostic in BIOS, which claims there's no hard drive. I inquire and friend says they installed a brand new HDD themselves. Finding this odd, I open up the computer to have a look.

The hard drive was just sitting in the compartment, not plugged in to anything or even screwed into the caddy. It was just chilling in there. No partitions indeed.
