Most vegetarians I know are excellent cooks... "not knowing how to cook" certainly isn't a reason people become vegetarian.

I think the issue here with PETA is that they simply aren't pro-vegetarian. It's simply a side-effect of being anti-meat, explicitly so.

Vegetarian here, though not really caused through personal experience, more of 'my parents are vegetarian and soy food tastes just as good as the actual stuff and I love chickens' kinda stuff.

My theory as to why most vegetarians are good at cooking, but not all... and not any if you go by PETA, is because most people suck at cooking... yet most food you can sort of get away with it. Overcooked Hamburger is still delicious (in fact some people prefer it a bit crispy), gravy can cover up dry meat, and many meats need to be almost disgustingly salty before people will complain.

Yet if you are eating nothing but vegetables (and grains, fruit, nuts, maybe dairy/eggs/honey)... nothing can hide your bad cooking.

In fact, Vegetable's bad reputation for tasting terrible is entirely caused by people's bad cooking (WELL mostly... there are bitter vegies). If you are eating Broccoli and it tastes bitter, the person cooked it wrong.

So you either become good at cooking as a vegetarian or eat nothing but terrible food for the rest of your life.

Potato+oven/grill/whatever=deliciousness. There's really no way to fuck up baked potatoes.
Also your argument still makes no sense, since if you're vegetarian and a bad cook you can always get others to cook for you.

This is untrue. It's not easy, and you really do have to seriously botch things, but you can definitely fuck up baked potatoes. I have had some damn nasty baked potato in my lifetime.
