I'm a little confused as to why they'd just stick it in cardboard boxes. Is that really a suitable container for meat paste?

MEAT IS MEAT. Even when it's a fleshy paste, perhaps suitable for use on crackers... though I feel my gorge rise slightly just at that thought of that, so yeeaaah.

Except for when it is carcass that has been washed with ammonia.

Na, it is a cleaning agent. Specifically NH₃. It is pretty good at killing the harmful things found in the gut of animals that would give humans food poisoning. It is also good at killing people. Drinking the stuff can cause death, and they wash meat with it then sell it as a food stuff. Granted, they wash it out, mostly, but it is not 100% removed.

Mn? Yeah, I'm aware of what bleach is, heh. Well, there's more in common household bleach than ammonia, but that's usually part of it, iirc. Just thought ammonia was part of the leatherworking/fur treating process somehow. Probably misremembering, eh.

E: Though wikipedia's not immediately agreeing with that. Hrm. Maybe it was some industrial strength cleaner m'madre'd nicked off the school. Meh.

I thought bleach was the common name for hydrogen peroxide, H₂O₂? Both bleach and ammonia are used for cleaning, but they are different things. Ammonia is also vital for fertilisers and explosives*! Thanks to Fritz Haber, we have a near unlimited supply of ammonia, and use his chemical process to used in supplying 1/3 of the worlds crops with good quality fertilisers! Still, it is not something you want to consume directly...

Holy crap, I think I still remember my chemistry lessons! WTF moment right there.

*EDIT: On reread, this isn't always true, as you can make either without ammonia, but many types of explosives require ammonia, and nitrates are important for plants, but I'm pretty sure they come in other forms too. So vital for commercially viable fertilisers and explosives...

Yesterday at home it was raining and there was snow everywhere and it was freaking COLD.

Today, at uni (which is in a coastal city) it's around 20 degrees C and the sun is murderingly hot with very little cloud cover, this kind of change in less than 200 kilometers is frankly baffling.
