A cat has discovered that if it stands on it's hind legs it can tap me on the shoulder with one of its front paws to get my attention.

It also likes walking on my keyboard, evidently.

I don't know which cat it is. Three of the four of them look exactly alike.

The obvious solution is to shave one, and dip one of the the other ones in green paint.   Although it will take a little maintenance you'll be able to tell them apart!

Alternatively you can paint them with national colors, in commemoration of the world cup. Pick your four favorite nations and go for it!

Speaking from experience, painting cats is not as easy as it sounds. They don't tend to appreciate the sentiment.

If you've every gotten paint in your hair, you well understand why. If you're going to englitterate your cat, please use proper hair dye and first consult a veterinarian as to health risks.

Plus, cats clean themselves with their tongues. Please make sure any cat-paint is edible.

Wtf for me: even with greatwyrmgold banned its going to take a minimum of 20,400 posts for even iamanelfcollaborato to overtake him. At his average post/day rate, its going to take ~598 days to close the gap. People will be wondering who the fuck this guy is at the top of the post-count stats who hasn't even posted in nearly two years before her finally been jumped off.

Check the person right below elf; that person has a much higher post-per-day count and will overtake quicker.

Today I learned that the Italian for "Japanese" is "giapponese".

And, yes, these are the sorts of things that I think are weird.

In Spanish, it's pronounced "Ha-pa-nyais."

In Spanish, it's pronounced "Ha-pa-nyais."
In Mandarin, it's pronounced "Sadistic baby-killing monsters".  ::)

Also, "ri-ben-ren" (which sounds more like "urban-ren" with a Beijing accent). A literal reading of the characters could be "man from the place where the sun comes from" (because Japan is east of China).

It's weird how every European language with a J in its alphabet basically borrowed "Japan" and related words with said "J" but pronounced it as in that language. Hence English "Juh-pan", German "Yah-pahn", Spanish "Ha-pahn". But Italian doesn't use "J", so they just sort of ripped off the English pronunciation, huh?

Adventures in historical linguistics: I have been meandering through this spreadsheet of Indo-European roots and discovered *smeg-, meaning "to taste good".
