-snip-

Ack. Instant yakisoba and ramen are terrible for your health, guys. The amount of sodium and fat in those things are obscene, any money you save buying them for meals will be far outweighed by costs of treating it's effects on your kidneys and blood pressure a few years down the road.

But I love MSG,
MSG gets me through the day.
Love me some tasty brain damage :D

To be fair, unusually high quantities of MSG can give you a temporary case of the "MSG shakes". Saw this phenomenon firsthand in China...the folks who don't normally eat a lot of Chinese food and who switched to a totally local diet (no McDonald's or KFC or any other ex-pat/Western food) would occasionally get tremors during a big meal, or one heavy in umami.

I eat a lot of Asian food normally, so I wasn't that affected (although I even got them a couple of times during some really big banquet-style meals with about 15 courses).

When I was a kid, I used to pour Accent (which is just crystallized MSG) into my hand and lick it off, because it tasted all meaty and delicious.

I think that's why most Chinese food places say that they don't have MSG. I had no idea that people got tremors from it. That kind of dose can't be good for you.

Well it mimics a high amount of sodium in a low dosage of MSG, basically along the lines of artificial sweeteners but this shit actually works (ie. tastes the same) . A pinch or two: ain't gonna kill ya, a tablespoon: well you aren't suppose to eat a tablespoon of salt anyways :P

It's as much as a marketing gimmick as anything. MSG got a bad rep back in the '90s and a lot of Chinese places saw their business drop. The thing is, most traditionally prepared food in China has less MSG than the corresponding Americanized Chinese food here. Traditional food has MSG that is a natural by-product of fermenting rice (and thus things like soy sauce), but in Americanized Chinese food more MSG was added on to make the flavors more intense.

Funny thing is, there's probably more MSG in Japanese food than Chinese. But people tend to think of Japanese food as being very "clean" and healthy. Whereas the Western notion of Chinese food is mostly from exposure to Westernized Cantonese-style cooking which can be heavy on the salt and soy sauce (ironically because native Cantonese food is kinda bland). Good Sichuanese cooking, for instance, needs very little in the way of flavor enhancers because it's full of chilies and Sichuan pepper (and is OM NOM NOM good).

I just got a revolver called the Pale Rider in RE: Revelations. The revolver must have a 16 inch barrel. It looks so ridiculous. It doesn't even make sense. No supports or anything. Who thought that was a good idea for a weapon!?

EDIT: Found a screenshot.

They make revolvers like that, the Colt Buntline is one. The idea is to attach a stock to it, but they are intentionally rather silly.

I read that as "Pole Rider". I think that's a more apropos name.

It says pale rider, the letter after the P is an A, not a O as it looks like or would make sense.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
