Regarding Metric: Fun facts from Wikipedia!

The US was one of the original 17 signatories to the Treaty of the Metre in 1875.
Utah actually had a mandate for using the metric system in public schools in its original 1895 constitution, but the section was eventually repealed.
There was a LOT of work in the 70s towards metrication, but it didn't really go anywhere. (This is probably why, if you look at food packaging, it has the weight/volume/whatever in metric as well as US units.)
In Hawaii, a 2013 bill mandated metrication in-state by 2018.
Metrication is a word meaning "the conversion to the metric system of weights and measures."

The thing is, just because a president signed a treaty one day, doesn't mean the populace is going to give a flying fuck what that guy thinks. Or his replacement, for that matter.
