i was informed that I'd been the only person to ask.
I just hope to god his friends aren't representative of humanity, but my cynicism says they are :(
The threat of hostility keeps many people from being more helpful. Looks can be deceiving, and a lot of people would be hostile towards others poking their nose into their business. In the case of an attack or injury, the victim may misinterpret the good samaritan of being the cause. If you try to help and accidentally make things worse, or your actions are misinterpreted, you could be sued for exorbitant amounts of cash. No good deed goes unpunished, after all.

So I blame the lawsuit-happy culture.

When I'm miserable the last thing I want is people asking me about it.

The last thing I want in general is people asking me about anything :x
Or talking to me.
Or looking >.>
Or generally just being around me.

The sum total of my asking was whether they were okay. If they'd told me to piss off and leave them alone, that would have been well within their rights.

Ey, people are different. When I'm miserable, even the slightest show of compassion and worry helps me back up. Except when it doesn't.

...people are complicated.

The way I see it, you either want help or you don't. I won't know until I ask. And if you NEED help, then by not even asking for fear of them getting a little miffed I'm doing a disservice.

Also, Celsius is actually based on physical constants instead I'd what, the coldest that was measured when the guy thought up the scale and body temperature? Besides, Celsius is very useful too. 0 = pretty cold, you can get snow from this point on. 10 = not all that cold. 20 = lower boundary of "cold".

There are exactly 180 degrees between boiling and freezing in Fahrenheit.

180 degrees. Exactly half a circle, in other words. π radians. 200 gon, if you really feel like espousing the superiority of Celsius.

I'd promote Kelvin as the superiorest measurement system if 3 digits weren't bothersome to write out all the time.

Celsius is best for everyday use.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Celsius is everyday's Kelvin, with the 0 at freezing water. Kelvin is meant to dominate the world, with Celsius as its puppet.

This attitude just keeps the old crappy system in place :(

My kids are going to learn metric first and imperial on the side.

What, they're gonna learn multiple ways of looking at something? So they can converse with a wider range of people without misunderstanding?

Get a job, hippie. REAL MURRICANS have the best way of doing things bar none. :X
The above was a joke. Not a good joke because I am tired, but...

Back to the first video game topic, my first computer game, as in thing I played with on the computer, was some cooking software. It had really fancy (for the time) graphics, and I just loved clicking on stuff and watching it move. My favorite bit was the virtual food pyramid (mind you, I was about 4 years old).

After that, I essentially absorbed all of my dad's collection of old PC games simultaneously via osmosis. Warcraft II, Civ II, Colonization, and a dozen others.

100 degrees Fahrenheit is also an excellent barometer of fever (pun intended). Above that is "You are very probably sick", below is "You are very probably not sick". That was intended too: Fahrenheit was originally defined by 100 degrees being the internal body temperature (although now it's like 98 degrees), and 0 degrees being the lowest temperature the inventor could bring brine down to. As such, 0 degrees is the marking point of unreasonably cold outside, and 100 degrees is the marking point of unreasonably warm inside (your body). Actually, at 0 degrees, salt should no longer be able to melt ice, which is interesting.

It still makes no sense though.
