The series is beautiful and good and I won't hear another word on it. Brandon Sanderson has problems sticking to the same tone/with some characters in the last books, but the final book is excellent, as these things go.

There's a new miniseries from the..."Learning Channel". Series not safe for work. Or sanity.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I saw this and, like all of you, I'm sure, thought 'wait, a minute, that's not quite right!' There are a number of problems here.

1) Odin was born more than 1500 years ago, well before the birth of any modern nation state. The odds that he's a citizen and eligible to run for office are pretty minimal, here.

2) In the same vein, Odin's advancing years must be catching up to him. Do we really want a leader this old and with such aged morals and policies? The youth of today will never identify with an old geezer like him.

3) Odin is known to associate with Thor, a violent individual with a history of racist attacks on giants. In this light, the truth behind Odin's central campaign promise becomes apparent. If the ice giants are dealt with, as Odin claims, what happened to them? It's clear the answer can only be some kind of 'Final Solution' to the 'Ice Giant Question'. This is the ultimate expression of the kind of xenophobic and racist politician our society today is so mired with. Remember - a vote for Odin, is a vote for genocide.

Why even bother considering a vote for the party that we know will die when Surtr and the Muspellsmegir cross Bifrost?

Wait, does that make Muspellsheimr the US, what with the leader brandishing a weapon brighter than the sun, that can destroy the world, and the whole invading other countries and destroying them without any real gain?

edit: spelling. x3

Odin is literally Hitler?
More accurately, Odin is Hitler, except more competent and better endowed.

I read all three pages. Two of the early ones are just kind of odd, not creepy.

That merited a change on my part. You may have to hit refresh to see part of it, though.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I got through book 10. The straw that broke the camel's back that made me quit after that book is that, as far as I could tell, it didn't have a climax. I was just slogging my way through it and it suddenly ended.
Book 10 is pretty much universally agreed to be the lowest point in the series. Not least because of poor Mat, you didn't deserve that.

I actually skipped book 10, but I had nearly no trouble understanding book 11. I just looked at the plot summary somewhere online and I was set.

My headset is, as far as I can tell, broken. I have owned it for exactly a year. The audio doesn't actually work when the jack between the headset and the [thing I forgot what it's called. Box with the mic on/off switch and mic gain dial and that] is plugged in all the way. It needs to be half-out to actually work. What kind of broken is this?
