Mind you, every argument I ever saw for it was either wrong or a double standard, but they still came to the correct conclusion.

You see, magic has an obscure throwaway line that restricts spellcasters to one spell per round, not counting swift, immediate or free actions. The only place this rule appears is in another rule that details an exception to it. This disables a lot of schticks for abusing the action economy, since you no longer have anything gamebreaking to do with your obnoxious number of rounds. Psionics has no such line, and with the Celerity line of spells rendered about as powerful as they were originally intended, it also has the best action economy abuse available.

I seem to recall a /tg/ DnD game that revolved around the world being taken over by psionics. One of the party members was a wizard who wanted to revive old-school magic.

Multiple Hendersons were achieved, and psionics were destroyed as a class entirely. Several times.

Wizards break games the best ways, always.

Now that I've finished my paper on the subject and turned it in, I can finally tell you all: I've come up with a crazy idea concerning The Hobbit, but I think it actually fits!

The Arkenstone is sapient and evil, like the Ring. Every interaction with it is bizarrely worded, and in one instance the Arkenstone is worded as making Bilbo pick it up. Furthermore, Thorin goes crazy over it as soon as he physically enters Erebor, even though he never even mentions it before this point. He recants said obsession not long after leaving Erebor.

And finally, why exactly do you think Smaug chose Erebor in particular to raid for treasure?
