Been playing D&D lately. A new addition to the group (an otherwise normal girl) thinks it's morally acceptable to set random peasants on fire, forcefeed the charred remains as children, and then use the children to search for traps.

Not that it's hard to convert. A second of time converted to length is a light second; you can do the same for everything else.

Not really, Malaria was eliminated in several places thanks to extreme vector control such as this. Not many people think about it now, but malaria used to be endemic to most of the United States and southern Europe.

I maintain my stance that we should make Malaria the next major eradication target, after the last Polio and Dracunculiasis are dealt with (which is probably under five years off). The earlier efforts had severe environmental consequences, of course, but we've made major strides since then.....major strides.

Look on the bright side, in a couple of years nobody will ever catch Dracunculiasis ever again.

They rely entirely on humans to reproduce, so eradicating them has proven fairly simple. You don't even need any high science (though larvicide treatments on water sources are helpful). They're literally just giving out filtration straws and telling people to use them, which does the trick nicely. Assuming everyone listens for a while, the parasite will be unable to reproduce and the water will be cleared of them.
