There is a mouse in my house. I do not have visual confirmation but mum says she saw it. I have been instructed to keep an eye on the dogs. It's fine it they catch and kill, but heaven forbid they make a mess of it.

Thing is: of my 2 dogs one is highly unlikely to care and the other would probably get it in his mouth and have no clue what to do next. I've seen him do that with bunnies and chicks. He'll catch it and carry the poor thing around alive and unharmed.

Rodents do not deal very well with being handled about, as I discovered to my detriment when I tried to adopt a baby bunny. The poor thing will be wandering around with PTSD for the rest of its days until it gets a heart attack from the stress and keels over. If they do make a mess of it, it might be kinder to just get a kitchen knife and behead it cleanly.

One of my cats is like that. He tried to eat a mouse when one somehow ended up in our house, but it didn't take since he tried to swallow it whole and alive.

Somehow he knew that it was food, but he didn't realize it was the sort of food you need to kill before you eat.
