For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I babysat today for a family friend.  I got to eat food and get paid, she got a free day.  Her son is grounded.  To his room . . .  With cable tv and a laptop w/wifi . . .and snacks.
I'm not a parent, but that still makes me want to facepalm a bit. Does nobody today understand what the purpose of grounding is?

If I ever become a parent, should I be so lucky to be able to do the things that come before that, at least I have plenty of examples of how NOT to raise my kids.

What happened to the days of sitting in a corner for a while?

If I ever have to ground someone, I'm going to make sure that the computer is in a seperate room. And the door to the room can be locked with a key I hide every time I go to sleep. In a safe under my bed. Which has a number combination lock. I may be overpreparing this.

Probably easier just to put the kid in a cage just out of reach of the computer.  More effective.

Nah, compared to modern pop music Rebecca Black is actually rather nice. Can't say the same about Justin Bieber though, she's kinda contributing to the downfall of modern pop music.
So unless we get next gen Beatles 2040, RB is going to be the next Mozart.

I'd have to agree with Loud Whispers, Rebecca Black isn't nearly as bad as say, Nicki Minaj, but people hate Rebecca because it was the trendy thing to do when "Friday" came out.

I think she's genuinely bad. Her voice is like a high school alpha female explaining to you exactly how you're going to die alone, and why she's really happy about that. Still, she seems like a nice girl and it's weird that people sent death threats to her.

If I have kids, I'm going to make sure that I have a nice, long, unique password for everything that can be used for entertainment when I ground them.  Like right now I'm not allowed to play games during the weekdays, or be on the internet after a certain time.  Except that I have 40+ games on my laptop, AND the password for bypassing parental security.

Sounds like a mandate to go befoul the roof, to me.

Remember parents. Be careful what you wish for, and remember to post bail. It was your fault.

I prefer the key method. I mean, they could hack the computer without me knowing, but if they hack the door down with an axe, I'll know.

I think I'd make a good parent. My kids might turn out to be sociopaths but they'd be well mannered and highly competent. And if I ever had to post their bail I'd make them pay me back and give them a lecture about not getting caught.
