Amsterdam dispensaries to be specific. Allowed to do business, distribute only to people with prescriptions, are totally open about what they sell, and you could get 2 years minimum for working there. It's so weird. Open something like that down here and you'd be raided in a week.

Yes, but when the state government is refusing to prosecute on federal grounds, the state courts throw out all their cases, and they essentially tell Obama and the DEA to come get the stoners their damn selves if they want them so badly, federal law only means so much.

Hell, medical marijuana isn't legal under federal law either. The states have revolted on this one.

It's a similar issue in the netherlands. The Cafe's are legal, but supplying them is not. It's legal to grow a limited quantity of your own, but not legal to walk around the street with it.

Dunno why you couldn't use joints as currency, m'self- they're a lot less weird than some of the stuff humans have used as currency (cowrie shells come to mind), and, of course, production and "minting" is decentralized- there's no equivalent of a Ben Bernanke to impose socialism on the land when any guy with a grow light can set his own interest rates.
