I was walking to class today, and who do I see but crazy campus preacher?

We get one of those at least once a month. Sometimes accompanied by an anti-abortion demonstration with the usual photos and rhetoric.

Same deal here. We've got a "free speech circle" next to the main path through campus, and just about the only use it sees is from evangelist preacher types who set up their banners and rant about how all the atheist, GLBT, feminist, etc. students are going to hell and shouldn't be allowed to attend university classes.

Lately we've had a small table set in the quad, either promoting or decrying socialism. Not sure which, I've never stopped by to check it out.

Found myself arguing against a student today who, like I, is a really strong atheist. He totally didnt understand the concept of a scientific theory at all and was on a big rant about how things like evolution, the big bang and so on are "proven", completly missing the core priciples of the scientific method. He didnt take kindly to me pointing out his errors, and that people like him are what give more rational atheists like myself a bad name and as much part of the problem as religious zealots. The chump actually pulled a book by Dawkins from his bag and tried quoting from it, to my response of "Oh, look, a special book which you hold dear, unchallenagable and sacred, containing the words of your God. Where have we seen that before?"

I dont think he liked being laughed at by the others present, but it will do him some good in the long run.

I can imagine my response being along the lines of sincerely asking him to help me be saved, then, when he asks something like 'Do you wish to be saved', say 'no'.

I'm fine with people being religious, but when they get preachy (Including atheists. I may be one, but this applies all the same) I find it outright irritating.

Oooh. Next time I see one of those guys I should go up and act like they're a Save Point in a game. I'd LOVE to be able to reload previous saves in real life!

Reminds me of a Russel Howard joke:

I was in London and there was one of these hellfire and damnation preachers in full flow out on the street. He was pointing as passing people and declaring to them that "You are going to HELL!". There was this one 6 ft tall black guy who gave the best response ever when the preacher pointed and yelled at him. He stopped, slowly turned to face him and pulled his headphones off and said in a Jamaican accent "Nah man, I am going to HMV".

Oh, and the time one of my mates who is known by the moniker "Dreadlock". When one of these preachers ranted about how he was clearly in cahoots with satan and how he was the son of a whore, Dreadlock landed a sweet right hook on him, declaring that "God made him do it."
