So. I've been playing a bit of New Vegas recently, and finally got around to Honest Hearts (I'd been avoiding it because of word-of-mouth about it being sort of shitty). Cue Follows-Chalk and his inability to SHUT THE FUCK UP. Which would have been rage, if not for my decision to resolve the conflict. Which was then repeatedly thwarted.

And so another session ends with tears and foaming mouth, once again begging the question of why the immortal plot-armored console-kiddie-proofed NPCs are without fail the obnoxious bastards that you so desperately want to dismember. It's almost like a secret plot to... drive... us... insane. Which leads into why I'm posting about Fallout at 1 am instead of absolutely anything else I could be doing.

I haven't played new vegas as much as Janet but I thought Honest hearts was good honestly, not so much the story as the atmosphere of the area. plus I got a Tommy gun.

I havent played DF in at least 2 years at this point myself. Though I am so tempted to hop in again since I'd really love to do that kind of citybuilding.

Just... God dammit why did it have to be DWARVES. So if I even wanna play the game and tolerate it I need to mod it. And then my gaming ocd kicks in and I'm modifying a million little things and oh my god nope nope nope nope.

I always want to get back into DF then the new military kicks in and my dwarves get slaughtered every time.  My fortress gets so incredibly prosperous after just a year that waves of ambushes and migrants swarm in too...

So much this. I never fully mastered the old 40d military; for this new one I'm lucky if I can get a single soldier to actually pick up a weapon.

Waking up at 2:42 AM meant I immediately and sleepily checked your stats out of curiosity. 35 times! 51 if you count posts in modding. T4 chat habits  have led to a tendancy to response to "I think" statements (my own included) with "let's go check, ahahahahahahaha". Playing an open source game with fairly readable code and a chat component does things to a person. The maniacal laughter is only sporadic. _{... filtering out the chat so I can actually play instead of compulsively check code less sporadic.}

... it's been a while since I've posted in the upper boards, too. Did fire up DF recently and have been playing several mods for the hell of it. I like that DFHack makes it much less effort intensive to make superfast minions these days. Not that [speed:0] (tootiredtocapslockbutnottootiredtotypethisheehee) was ever effort intensive but still!

... ones that don't need food, drink, sleep, or emotion still takes a little effort. Days I wish I had a better computer so that having enough critters to get anything done at more than a painful speed didn't turn the game into a screaming FPS morass from hell. But oh well! I can get over 20 or so nowadays, which is nice.

Did have an amusing thing a week or two ago where one of the mods implemented robots or something as a race without paying attention to certain fiddly bits. Cue nudity-embarrassment tantrum spiral and starvation for a species that's supposed to get by on just liquid-stuff and natively starts without clothes.

I haven't played DF at all this year and haven't played fort mode in probably 2 years or more. I really couldn't stand the necessary micromanagement anymore, while I find adventure mode an interesting experience that is unfortunately currently lacking in features. I'll most likely try it out again next release, thought it will probably take something major before I start up another fort again.
