When drowning you will probably go unconscious rather quickly.   With burning it might be a while till you die.

Burning to death isn't so much painful as it is scary as hell. Your nerves are only calibrated to respond to a specific range of temperature; and at extreme excesses (i.e. being on fire) they're being completely destroyed and/or rendered inactive due to chemical changes.

While you'd certainly feel a lot of pain initially before the fire starts destroying your body, it wouldn't be the extreme, soul-wrenching agony you're thinking of. Remember Thích Quảng Đức?

Meanwhile, bloodloss is a slow and agonizing death, being both physically painful as your cells die from lack of nutrition and mentally painful as you realize the imminence of your death, and getting shot anywhere but the brain is going to be horrifyingly painful.

Drowning is such an instinctually frightening experience that it's used as a torture technique.

See now, I like spiders and find them adorable but those sandspiders just creep me the fuck out. All trapdoor spiders do. Just waiting under the sand or dirt to leap out and bite whatever passes by... it's ugly too... Don't understand why people find that image adorable...
