This is, no joke, the 3rd instance today across all my forums where someone has said they knew an actual serial killer/murder IRL. The odds are spooky.

Make it five; mi madre was friends-ish for a time with a fellow that got intoxicated and murdered their significant other. Went along for a prison visit once, back in the day. Not a serial killer, but eh. As starver notes, the odds aren't really that, well. Odd.

In unrelated wtf, ran into a james patterson book with a friggin' spice and wolf reference in it, today. Not a subtle one, either, it's in the name of one of the main characters.

Was kinda' surprising, but I guess that kind of thing's got to be in some of his books, at some point. Between the amount and the amount of co-authors, someone or another's going to slip stuff in eventually.

Most exciting I've had is a neighbour I grew up with embezzling money from work.

Yeah, there's a non-zero amount of my family with organized crime ties at some point in their life, lol. Several folks with some level of felony. Never been particularly close to that mess personally, and as far as I'm aware the ones I've been around got away from the junk before I was born, but, like. It's a thing.

Grandparent ran moonshine, parent dabbled with some of the east coast mafia when they were young, who knows how much drug related crap scattered around, more than one that did time for financial crimes. Stuff like that. Immediate family (outside the one noted) has been mostly clean most of my life, but... prior? The before my time was a mess. There's reasons I'm a fairly straightlaced teetotaler, ha. Family history reads like a checklist of "don't bloody do what they did".

5D diplomacy. This is what I imagine the time war looks like. Armies going back in time to capture their own origins, fleets bombarding the future to support attacks that will happen, inter-dimensional marines crossing timelines to find the one timeline where their allies are allies and not enemies
