[2] As I was fooling myself I was 'playing' the market, rather than doing the smart thing that the whole tax system was anticipating that the company was probably trying to game, by dispersing value in-leiu, in a manner which us at the other end were expected to "get a little more, pay a little more, probably withold a little tiny bit more from the US Treasury in the long-run, whilst the interest on fees go entirely elsewhere". As far as I ever managed to understand the deliberately obfuscating process.

The RSU's (at least from what you described, they sound like RSU's) are pretty much a means of deferring taxation for the recipient, and in that way 'gaming the system'. For example, instead of accepting income in the year where you don't have any special deductions or credits, but you expect a child to be born next year, so you can defer that income to the next year so you can take advantage of the tax benefits of having a child dependent in the actual year where it's most useful. If you don't take advantage of it like that, then at best you're pushing your tax bill into the future, and at worst potentially losing your income if the company goes belly-up before they vest and become salable.

When I had RSUs, I got taxed when they vested; basically 24% of the shares were sold at time of vesting (since that was my marginal tax rate) and that money was added to my tax withholding.  Then the price of the stock at that vesting date was the cost basis for those shares.

I sold some of the shares, after a year, so that was long-term capital gains. I've still got a bunch of the shares sitting around until I need them - but they are all long-term, so will be taxed at the nice 15% most likely (I doubt I'll ever make enough to hit the threshold for 20% long-term capital gain, but even that is better than the 24% marginal rate).

So RSUs are doubly good: you get deferred income and it's likely taxed at a significantly lower rate.  It's not "cheating" the system, it's playing by the rules.

Basically if you can turn your income into capital gain, you can potentially get a nice tax discount.

Just watch out for net investment tax and additional medicare tax, which hit if you are in a high enough income bracket.  AMT is is also a thing, but I still can't figure out what triggers that; I've never been subject to it.

A single rat Colony should do it so so long as there is x+1 other rats nearby. (with x equaling the other players open red mana of course)

Okay, but the water in the rats will boil away long before they actually hit the lava wall. They will be literally cooked by the time they hit the wall.

So Zultan dies in lava and I, the righteous quote hoarder, succeed.

There will always be two camps, one has their sigs out in the open and the other keeps the good quotes hidden away. Both are good in their own way.And they shall war against each other eternally like Lilliput and Blefuscu!

Which means we must fight, Zultan!

go home, lava

Depends on how many there are. In order to boil the rats, the lava wall needs to transfer some of its heat away from itself. Repeat enough times and you have a wall of stone, not lava.

So what you're saying is that if I throw all the rats at the lava I can defeat it, I'm okay with this as long as it isn't me.

If No is played in response to Tunnel, then it either A) constitutes a special action, in which case it will resolve immediately, before Tunnel, or B) it is put on the stack on top of Tunnel. The stack being a stack, the top object is resolved first, and thus No resolves before Tunnel this way too.

At least with modern Magic rules, I know there were arcane flowcharts before they replaced it all with the stack + a select few special actions.

If you are going to throw rats in lava, let me get behind this handy, non liquid, rock. When a bag of liquid water gets submerged in lava, it explodes. Which will splash the lava all over the place.

-Botanists find a plant that mimics other plants
-Cool but nothing too weird
-It mimics any plants it's placed nearby, not just coded to mimic a certain species
-Okay pretty weird
-It even mimics plastic plants it's placed nearby
this plant has eyes AND fashion

Very interesting. (Also: "lenght", figure 5, etc. I've been doing too much proof-reading, recently.)
