https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/changing-nature-inflation-prompts-new-inequalities-new-york-fed-says-2023-01-18/

So, as I read this article about inflation initially hitting middle income households worse, but now hitting low income houses worse, I wonder:
"Maybe inflation is hitting the same households, they just got downgraded from middle class to poor?"
In related news, the poverty guidelines are released in January...

Hopped on Twitter (Which is rare) just to see if the Elon stans were taking bullets for the guy after the latest mess.

The WTF isn't that they were, that's hardly surprising ("OMG he apologised! Get over it!" said in a lot more words, basically)

The WTF is that every fucking exploration tweet was some far-right nuttery about various stuff. Mitch McConnel is actually a Democrat, the police officer didn't die on Jan 6th and it was a stitch up to make the coup-attemptees look violent, Libs of TikTok is just wanting to protect our kids, etc. etc.

Was Twitter always like that, or did the far-right conspiracy stuff start getting promoted more *after* Elon bought Twitter?

It was always there but became stronger when Elon took over because Elon fanboys are either ancapoids or Nazis, especially after his recent actions.

Elon pivoted politically from 'vaguely left' to vaguely kind of far right' around the time of the mid terms.  I dont think he espouses either viewpoint, he just has a need to be in the news and to see that his actions affect society.  And, also to position himself both within the country and internationally.

Remember, we were supposed to have that 'blue wave' where all the repubs swept into the lower houses.

Elon Musk is also a “free speech absolutist” which basically means he’s going to allow whatever on his platform as long as it doesn’t break the law, or directly affect him.

A bunch of suspended accounts got restored when he bought Twitter, and unsurprisingly engaged in the behaviour that got them suspended in the first place, and since he has fired everyone, there’s nobody to actually moderate anyway.

Him, or any of his far right friends, or annoys people, or (in the dumbest, least effective way possible) make money, or...

Musk isn't a free speech absolutist in any sense of the term. I think he's claimed it, but he's also a profligate liar, so.

E: Also yeah, breaking the law is pretty high up there on the "doesn't give a damn" list for musk's twitter. As you note, the moderation team got shitcanned, criminal behavior has exploded on twitter from what I've picked up and musk's shown little to no interest in reigning that in, to the extent it's even possible with how badly the business has been mismanaged over the last handful of months. The company's also been regularly breaking laws, contracts, etc., since the guy took over.

In no way is he a "free speech absolutist", he just likes to claim that as he manipulates things.

Oh, sure he is. For himself. He thinks he should be able to say absolutely anything he wants, but fuck everyone else.

We ought to remind all these free speech racial slur enthusiasts that such an absolutely open forum exists already, it's 8chan. And entirely predictably it's a cesspool. What they want is not free speech but to be able to say whatever stupid shit with the appearance of respectability.

Thats a good point.  They want to feel validated for their words.  They want people to approve of them.

As in, without anyone caring what he says or negative social consequences. Which is nonsense. There can't be a world where nobody will react negatively to something you say.

As in the same thing Religious group used todo to those violating their scared values. Much like leading with negative slurs it is a tactic that aims to shut down conversation, and from what I hear its no longer only aimed at rich famous people but have permeated into schools, with peer groups going above and beyond the good ol boycott.
