Smartness is a bit of a nebulous concept and so is AI, and not even just because one of the words in AI is a synonym for smartness. I guess that "artificial" is at least pretty clear. Most of the time.

Anyways, there's no universal law of smartness conservation or anything stopping you from making something "smarter" than yourself. I mean, plenty of people are dumber than their own kids. That's even been a trend over time, since humans evolved to have bigger brains over time, which us smarty smarts have decided made us smarter somehow.

I think smartness is the ability to solve problems. Which is different from knowledge and sentience, but  people often blend the three.
