A friend of mine believes that one of her kids may have stolen like $2k out of her rainy day cash stash. None of them live at home, the youngest is like 19 and doesn't live at home. I'm kinda furious on her behalf, she goes to the wall for her kids and I'd be livid if they stole from her like that. I mean, I stole from my mom before the age of 18, but it was mostly grabbing a $20 here or there. Stealing thousands of dollars of cash is......beyond the pale.

Seriously, that level of "missing funds" points to drugs, especially if it is cash that went missing.

Other causes: Gambling addiction. Someone has an abusive significant other. Too much time at the Bar.

My sense is that it's not drugs. Some of her kids are in financial straits and their parents have always provided for them. But I agree taking several thousand dollars and not thinking about the consequences is the kind of thing a drug addict does.
