Found another one on the kitchen sink, which confirms they must be coming from the sewers. The U traps are filled with water as far I can see. Those things can swim anyway, or so it seems.

Umm... tape seem too onerous and impractical on the bath and sink. I think boiling water down the drains it is, for now at least.

I don't know if it exists in your country, or is obtainable, but there's a pesticide paste (comes in a little tube like epoxy) that works well and can be placed in areas a kid can't get to.

How about attaching some solid insecticide on the bottom of the affected sink's grill? So that whenever you run water in it, some of the insecticide would dissolve in it and remain in the trap.

You could also try to trap and eat them. According to the SAS survival handbook, most ant species can be eaten. Cook them for 3 minutes, then grind them to a paste. You can use this paste as a nutritious binding agent. Apprently they even taste great, a bit lemon-y.

Trapjaws are nice fat buggers too.


EDIT: Oh and I was wrong about the suture thing. That's army ants, not trapjaws.

I would eat ants if it comes to it, not centipedes however.

I dusted some boric acid in corners and under the sink and any other places I could not smooth with my secret thinset mortar/white cement/plaster mix.

You're South American yeah? Don't know what your seasonality is like over there but here Spring is just starting and that's when all the creepy crawlies come out of the woodwork. Just had my first ant in my office the other day, crawling across my hand as I reached for my phone.

Oh, yeah, the bugs are definitely back in town in florida. LB's in Venezuela, though, iirc. Lot closer to the equator, so it's fairly possible the bugs just never take a break.

I realized I lurk here way more than I thought I did, or rather much of the ”activity” I thought I had here (going through some of these lower forum posts daily) turned out to be just lurking as I rare,y post/comment. I even have some thoughts I think about writing out, but then deem them too unimportant to actually write (and TBH, most of them probably are)... including this thought at an earlier point today.
