There are such things.

I guess I only really know of such things because my wife is a vet, though...

Yup! For cats too! My friend has cats and the one is known to have the Hershey squirts from time to time. Luckily, she thinks the probiotic paste is actually treats and is more than willing to gobble it up.

Not always. For some people with problems swallowing (Stroke patients, people with advanced dementia, etc...) crushing and inserting into apple sauce or thickened juice is prescribed.

For medications not formulated for rapid absorption, this is NOT INDICATED.  For example, enteric coated tablets (which are meant to dissolve in the intestinal tract, not the stomach or mouth), or slow release tablets (which contain a larger dose of medication, but the bolus is designed to release the medication slowly, to sustain a target blood saturation.)

Anti-psychotic medications tend toward being this latter category. Chewing or crushing the tablets will increase the rate of absorption, which will change the blood concentrations of the medication.

why applesauce, is there something specific about apples?

No. It's just palatable, easily conceals bitter flavors, is mostly water, and is thick enough to easily swallow.

Pudding is another common choice.

Add to that two outbreaks of psychosis among our patients, a junior doc committing suicide, and according to one of the medical regs, the same thing happening all around the hospital.

I'm beginning to suspect some local elder god is stirring

They are the natural enemy of doctors, and must be crushed.

Was the attempted goomba-stomp intentional or accidental?

I think my computer monitor's starting to degrade near the right edge. I went ahead and got one of those clip-on magnifying glasses and clipped it to my phone's camera to see. The monitor was displaying white when I took these photos.

Spoiler: Center (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Near right edge (click to show/hide)

What's going on here? Can this be repaired, or do I just have to replace the whole thing?

Could be a software issue. That it's every other row that's dim implies it might be "intentional". Try resetting the display's colour temperature settings, and see if the issue exists with all images and not just a plain white. If it's a hardware issue, repairing would involve individually replacing the worn out LEDs, which is difficult, expensive and time-consuming enough that it's better to just replace the whole display unless it's a priceless antique or something.

No.

That looks like the layers of the diffuser/polarizer layer are not tightly pressed together.

An LCD display contains 3 to 4 layers of textured plastic that polarize and diffuse the light after it passes through the liquid crystal element.

Did the screen get bunged up on something?

Also, some lines are showing dead rows.  That's a problem with the transistor gate array.

No, but there are crushed ants under the top polarizer. I dunno why they crawled in.

Insects are sometimes drawn to electromagnetic fields. Just about any spilled fluid containing sugars would attract them as well.

If you've got ants going inside your monitor, they're almost certainly helping it degrade faster.

As a guess:

Ants produce formic acid. If there are ants inside the display, and they were in contact with the transistor layer, it is possible that they secreted this acid there and damaged the transistor layer. The mechanical action of them crawling between the plastic diffuser sheets will have caused the sheets to separate, causing loss of focus.

So, I made soap by the hot process. I used cooking oil as the oil because that's all I had.

It turns out that soap made from cooking oil smells like cooking oil. The soap was a decent proof of concept, but I think I'm getting pure oil before doing it again. For now, I'm regretting this waste of 50g of perfectly good lye.
