This is a bit labor intensive to do, but would open the door to "koolaid" flavors, Tang, and other flavored drink mixes.

Having looked at it, I'm not sure that just pulverizing kool-aid mix wouldn't make something close to flossing sugar; it's almost entirely glucose and fructose by weight anyway, since an 18 g serving contains 17 g sugar. Any of the cotton candy machines that take crushed candy (and thus granulated sugar) could probably melt it straight.

Making hard candy out of powder just to break it back into chunks to melt it seems like an extra step.

Heck, if someone tells me to I'll go ahead and buy a can of Kool-Aid mix and try to melt it.

Yes, which, per the can I just went and got, is called "Kool-Aid Drink Mix."

And which apparently turns into hard candy by itself if you heat it, and turns into strands if you drag it out, so could well work for candyfloss.

considering it is meant to be cut with a significant amount of water, you might want to dilute the powder with unflavored flossing sugar.  I suspect that it will be a bit on the astringent/acerbic side in terms of taste, with the large amount of citric acid they add.

The strands I tried didn't. It tastes a little tart, but mostly just cloyingly sweet, which is arguably a good thing for candy.
