I mean apparently a tornado happened, and the storm that created it is still around somewhere, just not here, or in any way visible from here. Yet? Maybe yet. it was supposed to hit here a long time ago.

At a 5-way intersection near a school, the light is red, and some asshole pulls out from traffic into the left lane, barrels through the intersection, continues on to the next red light in front of the school gate, pulls onto out to the right of the street to blow through that intersection, then continues through the 20MPH-speed limit school zone at 30-40MPH.

Oh, and that asshole was my stepdad, while taking me to work. He claims he was having an "anxiety attack" because of the traffic. Or, basically because the light was red for about 10 seconds. Which, in my opinion, is just his way of saying he's an entitled piece of shit who actually thinks that traffic lights will change because he demands it, and got angry and did something that put a lot of people in danger when it didn't. And if it was an actual anxiety attack, then quite frankly, if you get triggered by a perfectly normal traffic light, turn in your goddamned license, you don't need to be driving.
I really should have taken a vacation this week.

I just woke up, and my post and the ones in response to it got me thinking: how the hell does DST work? I mean, I sort of get it; it's compensating for variation in day/night lengths throughout the year in temperate regions, but why the sudden jump in time? Doesn't that make time calculations harder?
For reference, I live close to the Equator. As such, I live under the assumption that timezones are constant.

I'd say it doesn't really make things that much harder, but the time shift straight up kills people -- there's apparently a measurable jump in deaths when DST changes happen -- so I'unno how accurate that is. It's pretty shit tbh, and there's some push to just knock that crap off. It's not really the calculations per se, though, it's all the disruption involved with suddenly having to shift your sleep cycle et al by a hour. Not good for you, your driving habits, much of anything at this point really.

In any case, personal wtf -- it's been a while since I've had ate something that was legit heavily salted, more than chips or jerky or instant noodles or whatever. Grandpa had someone bring him some ribs today, and at least part of those things were motherfucking salty. Used to be I could mostly tolerate that but apparently going kinda' easy on the nacl over the last handful of years has changed that. Stuff was actually kinda' nasty, and has left a lingering after taste that's just bleeeh. Still hasn't gone away despite a cup of delicious apple juice and a mostly un-salted potato. Getting up to try a peppermint after this post.
