While I am against censoring as a rule, does 4chan have any positive aspect to it whatsoever? I only hear about the terrifyingly bad aspects.

It quarantines the people who enjoy it so that they don't pollute other communities.

Outside of /b/, /pol/, and a few other boards, 4chan isn't all that bad. Not a place I find worthwhile, but they're not (again, outside of a couple of boards) the demonic cesspool of the internet reputation has them as. Even /b/ isn't so bad now that they've established effective bans on outright illegal content. It is the /pol/ trolls that are the biggest problem.

A user there once came up with a proof for a mathematical conundrum that had been bothering mathematicians for years, to answer a question about anime. I'd link the article but I read it months ago so I have no idea how I'd be able to find it.

Apparently 4chan is currently blocked in Australia. Not even by a government order, just our main ISPs deciding to be dicks.
From what I read, though, this week's prime minister is planning on cooking up further bullshit restrictions to enable censorship as well.

Well this is ridiculous. I spend a lot of time on /tg/ and apart from the 'elf prisoner wyd' threads it's actually really good. Just a bunch of geeks with no filter. As informative as it is confronting.

What I find equally hilarious is that a bundle of housewives making an arbitrary decision as to what is and isn't evil based entirely on wild speculation without having any intention of ever experiencing it and then turning it into a PR parody of itself is essentially what happened to DnD in the 90's.

Yeah, my experience with /tg/ types is more, like, mild annoyance than anything, they're usually not actually bad, even if they have funny ideas in their heads about things i consider important and all that.
