Someday I'll learn to assume that nothing that is in a spoiler in this forum is safe for work. Today isn't that day.

Send email to work at 8:43 today saying I'm taking a sick day.

Go back to bed.

Get up at noon.

No activity on my phone.

Faff around til 2:30 playing Monster Hunter World.

Roommate comes home.

"Are you ok? Your brother, and three coworkers got a hold of me asking if you're ok."

*Checks phone*

Three missed phone calls and a bunch of texts from different people.

*Checks email records*

*See email sent this morning*

aged meats.
I have never eaten aged steak, age in meat seems like a trial to be overcome rather than a delicacy to be pursued. Jerky and smoked sausage both do enough work on their own, I’m not in any rush to eat ancient Bessie

Also yes I would require many vodkas before I could withstand sitting in a cow cellar.

It's like regular aged meat, but butter.

I just realized that this city has some slightly bizarre eateries. There's the eloquently named "Fruit and Vegetables", which strangely enough isn't the local vegan dive (you need to go to the "Chocolate Bar" in order to get your three square roots a day.\
if chocolate bar doesn't serve at least some chocolate I'm suing

Kinda a minor wtf but: Watching a star trek episode, where a character goes though some timey whimy and alternate reality shenanigans and no one believes him, but I'm wondering, why don't they believe him? This sorta shit happens all the time in star trek, there must be hundreds of cases, time travel is well know, the existence of a backwards universe is fairly well known, and there is a whole section of star fleet dedicated to making sure time travel doesn't fuck everything up (presumably they work via time traveling back to wherever Kirk goes and handing out birth control and antibiotics so that there doesn't turn out to be a bunch of std ridden half kirk races in the present/future), so why don't they believe this character? I guess, I mean, it's obviously because the writers are hacks. But still.

I mean, they keep the holodeck even though it malfunctions all the time and tries to murder someone.

Half the malfunctions of the holodeck come from the very obviously "GAN Deep learning AI" driven heuristic self-programming it does.

"Paris, 1910, along the Rhine" Is not terribly descriptive.

Which side of the Rhine?  Do you want "right on the waterfront" or do you want to be on the street in a district that is on the waterfront?

The computer has to fill in all kinds of details, and the current best solution we have for this kind of thing is like what DeepMind does when you ask it about "Puppies".

Who knows what the damn thing will generate, or what it ACTUALLY is looking at, or weighting when you ask it for that historic perspective on French culture and locale-- Whatever it is, it will be what the training set, and the generative network ended up weighted against, and whatever else in the culture database got cross-referenced with that location and time period.

It's pretty easy to see how some batshittery could come out of the holodeck, sans "ACTUAL" programming of the scenario. (But nobody wants to hear about how the bridge crew spent a whole damn year carefully tuning a simulation they wrote by hand. They want the MAGIC of the moment.
